Novice writers may make the mistake of allowing elements of omniscience into a first-person narrative unintentionally and at random, forgetting the inherent human limitations of a witness or participant of the events.
If you're telling a story from a personal perspective, such as that of your main character or of your own perspective, you'll want to use the first person.
